An Interview with a Planet
Fifth graders will apply a variety of research skills in a cumulative project called "Interview with a Planet". They will research a planet of their choice on their iPad and create a mind map organizer with the app SimpleMind+. They then write a script for their interview, incorporating facts from the research as well as using common interview conventions. They will use a picture of their planet with cartoon features added in the app Doodlebuddy and record the interview in iMovie.
Fifth graders at EKD are working on creating Claymation movies. They write a story, build the characters from model magic, and shoot the photographs in art class. They then will use a program Frames to assemble the photographs into a stop-motion animation movie.
5th graders build video games using the website Gamestarmechanic.com. They learn game design, creativity, collaboration, problem solving skills, and more. Once they have "played" the tutorial to earn sprites, they get to create their own game and challenge their friends to play it!
Coding with Arduino Uno Boards!
5th graders also have the opportunity to learn C++ Coding using Arduino UNO boards. These cool kits come with everything a beginning coder needs to learn the ropes of software engineering!
